Review - Therapeutic Music with K9 Massage
December 16th 2011 21:12
Every now and then, someone I have had contact with through the equine aromatherapy course surprises me with their other life away from their assignments.
Joan Sorita, sent me a link joansorita.bandcamp.com to her new project and I just adore this creative approach to helping you massage your dog.
Some of the tracks give you a guided massage while others just have the music. What I liked was that an experienced massage therapist or someone who already massaged their dog, could use. For those who wanted some ideas or needed the guidance, the spoken words were non-intrusive and Joan spaced her phrasing so you had plenty of time to apply her suggestions.
Joan emailed me and said the music is meant for people that want to connect to their dog through therapeutic music and simple massage.
She wrote and plays the music on the CD and it is 54 to 68 beats per minute so as to have a deliberate effect on the Central Nervous System. It is definitely a production Joan can be quite proud of and I am happy she has been able to put her creativity together so that it can be shared with others.
I asked a friend to bring her excitable kelpie over for a visit. This friend is also a massage therapist but had never been able to get “Phoebe” to sit still for a rub. If you know black kelpies, it is just not in them to be still.
We decided to just play the music tracks in the background and see if she would behave differently to other visits. It took a little while, but she settled. So then my friend decided to see if Phoebe would continue to fidget or sit appropriately for her massage. Phoebe responded better than we expected, and I think because of the way Joan paced her words, really helped with this. A couple of times we stopped to enjoy our cup of tea, so then left the music track playing in the background before trying another guided track.
Most of all it was a relaxing afternoon for all of us, and my friend was pretty zoned out herself when they left for Phoebe's daily walk in the park. My friend reported back that Phoebe was nice and cruisey that afternoon, when often she is pretty frantic once she hits the dog zone in Centennial Park.
What I liked about this CD was it is easy to listen to and easy to follow. Anyone who wants some ideas could find this a useful tool. And you can choose, with words or without.
You can sample the tracks here joansorita.bandcamp.com then I expect many of you will find it worth buying.
