Hopbush for aches and pains - product review

November 5th 2008 02:31
One of my favourite applications at the moment is a gel made by a local herbalist, which contains all sorts of yummy ingredients and one key one is hopbush.

I did a google on this herb and it has been used extensively for cuts and wounds, swellings and bruising, even toothache.

Natural Care Company www.naturalcare.com.au gave me a sample of this gel at a competition earlier this year. I have to say I get given samples often, and this one I have continued to use. If you have a horse with a sore back, or sore muscles anywhere, would recommend using their hopbush arnica and comfrey gel. I have this in my kit I now take to see clients with. It is rather goopy but it helps me in a professional sense as well as leaving it with clients to follow up with.

I might be massaging a back and the horse is just a bit touchy about it, I apply some of the gel and it takes the 'sting' out of it for me. I still offer it to the horse to smell first, just in case he or she doesn't like it, but no refusals yet.

If you have heat in the lower leg and are worried about tendons and ligaments, this is a handy first aid remedy while waiting to see if you have done serious damage.

The other bonus with this mix is its carrier. It doesn't leave a residue. Sometimes I don't like to use my oil based aromatherapy blends on the back in case too much heat is generated under the saddle if the owner want to ride after a massage, I feel okay just applying the gel in this situation. Or if an owner has to compete the next day, the applied gel will brush out of the coat.

If you are looking for a night light all round application, this one could be a handy one to keep in the tack room.
