Cold Weather Herb Hint - Celery Seed
April 29th 2008 22:54
There are some herbs you can use all year around, and other herbs that start to come into their fore in different seasons.
One herb I tend to start suggesting at this chillier time of the year is celery seed. It is quite a potent herb in the seed form so I tend to keep my doses low, and in doing so, you can get the results you desire.
It can be used for aches and pains traditionally an arthritic herb because of its alkalizing action on the body.
It is a great digestive, especially if you have a horse prone to cold weather colic. It also encourages a horse to drink more by reflex of its diuretic actions.
Its not a bad herb to consider for its nutritive value as well. It contains silica, sodium, phosphorus along with other salts.
The typical horse you may consider using this through winter with is the older horse who may not drink as much water when the water gets a bit icey.
