Bruised soles in horses
Depending on the severity of the swelling and bruising anti-inflammatory herbs can be useful, a combination of White Willow Bark (Salix alba) powder and Hawthorn Berry (Crataegus oxyacantha) powder will assist the repair of damaged tissue. Many people think of using Devils Claw (Harpagophytum procumbens) at a time like this, but if not used with care you can irritate the gut, whereas the White Willow Bark and Hawthorn Berry will have an effective pain relief and assist with keeping the circulation flowing well to the affected areas.
If you believe a poultice to the area would be useful, Slippery Elm Bark (Ulmus fulva) powder makes a nice paste with drawing qualities.
If your bruising develops into an abscess feeding Garlic (Allium sativum) and Echinacea (Echinacea augustifolia) can help the body heal from within. With any hoof issue, three to four doses a day of silica tissue salts will help bring strengthen the hoof and clear infection.
Once you have restored health to the hoof, this horse may need further support with herbs such as Rosehips, Clivers (Galium aparine), Nettle (Urtica dioica) or Yarrow (Achillea millefolium).
