No Cooking Anzac Bickies for Your Horse
April 25th 2008 02:34
I doubt my grandfather was able to offer this treat to his horse while in Egypt while serving in the 1st Lighthorse during WW1
Being Anzac Day, you might like to take a nice treat up to the stables today.
This is an easy non-cook treat (and yes a treat because of the sugary components I don't recommend this treat each day).
Combine
1/2 cup of rolled oats
1/4 cup of bran
1 heaped tablespoon of sugar
1 tablespoon of molasses
1 tablespoon of honey
1 tablespoon water
Mix all ingredients thoroughly. Add the water until consistency is thick and moist, but not drippy. Refrigerate dough for one hour. From the dough make golf ball size lumps. To keep the dough from sticking to your hands, wiped lightly with corn oil.
FEED IMMEDIATELY.
This was adapted from a small book The Original Book of Horse Treats by June V Evers (Horse Hollow Press).
I would prefer to use grated carrot or apple instead of honey and sugar, but have a play with this idea as most horses enjoy this moist treat.
